ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Penelope Connell. I am currently an 11th grader at

Watkinson School. This is my website for all things Global Studies.

The Global Studies Diploma Program is a two-year course focusing on service,

engagement, and travel. Participants explore the changing world around them and their place in it, emerging as more informed citizens (and with a secondary high school diploma). It's a lot of work, but I'm passionate about the subject.

I was interested in joining Global Studies for a few reasons. The first was a

belief that it would be an enriching experience for me. I was interested in the topics covered, and I thought Global Studies was a logical next step. The second was the influence of my 9th grade History teacher, Mr. David Kroch. He fostered a drive to explore the world and its problems in a measured and informed way, something I hope I'll keep for a very long time. A third influence was the honest belief that this kind of education is necessary (or at least valuable) for any successful and engaged citizen. I want to be as knowledgeable as possible when it comes to my civic duty.

This website is intended to document my journey towards that knowledge. I

don't think that journey will ever really end, mind you, but I hope you'll stick around for these two years anyways. It's going to be an exciting journey, and it'll be nice to have you along for the ride.
